Story to Air on PBS NewsHour

Carl Nasman ’12 and Roberto Daza ’12 co-produced a story set to air on PBS NewsHour Friday, June 8. The story focuses on the influx of American junk food into developing nations. The shift away from traditional diets is literally rotting away children’s teeth in rural areas of countries like El Salvador. Carl and Roberto visited rural villages outside of Santa Ana, El Salvador and saw first hand the black and rotten teeth of kids there. Karen Sokal-Gutierrez, a UC Berkeley Professor, has been studying the problem and puts the blame on American food companies like Pepsi and Coca-Cola.
