Ashley DelCastillo
Ashley DelCastillo (she/her) is a print journalist based in Oakley, California. She is interested in reporting on science and medicine, women’s rights and health, environmental concerns, mental health, and finances and business.
Prior to pursuing a career in journalism, DelCastillo enlisted in the United States Navy at the age of 17. During her enlistment, she worked in the medical field while simultaneously completing her undergraduate degree in Psychology at the University of Central Florida. There, she gained experience with research methods and writing academically. After graduation and her honorable discharge at the end of her contract, she worked a remote job at HubSpot, allowing her to move to California in hopes of attending UC Berkeley’s school of journalism. Since moving to the Bay Area, DelCastillo briefly worked at Phillips 66 refinery in the safety department while she waited to find out if she would be attending UC Berkeley in Fall of 2024.
Lo and behold, DelCastillo received her j-school acceptance letter in March of 2024.
While studying at UC Berkeley, DelCastillo hopes to expand her writing abilities, strengthen her people skills, and further develop her research methods. DelCastillo has also recently founded AnchorFit with Ashley; a veteran owned personal training business. As a small business owner, she also hopes to gain a further understanding on how to strategically grow her online appearance. After graduation, she hopes to continue growing her business while writing for either a local newsroom or SubStack. Or both!
