UNFORGETTING: A conversation with author Roberto Lovato and Jess Alvarenga

https://youtu.be/QP3dK4ZhBUI

A powerful counter narrative directly ahead of the Fall 2020 elections, UNFORGETTING by Roberto Lovato exposes stories of gang life, Central American immigration, guerrilla warfare, and violence between the United States and El Salvador that are at the center of the political calculations of President Trump and the Republican party.

Roberto Lovato is a journalist, activist and San Francisco Mission District native son. His thrilling, unforgettable memoir excavates family history and reveals intimate stories of love as well as of intergenerational trauma beneath headlines about gang violence and mass Central American migration. His work is being critically hailed as he reveals the truth behind one of the most important, yet least-understood humanitarian crises of our time—and one in which the perspectives of Central Americans in the United States have been silenced and forgotten.

Jess Alvarenga is an investigative reporter and documentary filmmaker. Coupled with their background in journalism and social justice organizing, they use filmmaking as a way to document and reimagine immigrant narratives, particularly that of the Central American Diaspora. Jess has a Master’s in Journalism degree from UC Berkeley.
