In Jeong Kim
In Jeong Kim has worked as an investigative journalist and filmmaker for the public broadcasting station, Gwangju MBC in South Korea for the past decade.
Her field of expertise is social movements. In Jeong’s family had a direct experience of the Gwangju Uprising of 1980 – an event characterized by violence and injustice which would prove a pivotal point for the future democracy of South Korea. Therefore, she feels it is her calling to search for the truth, in honor of those who died during this uprising.
She co-directed and co-produced two documentaries, named ‘His Name Is…(2017)’ and ‘Candle Light Movement(2016)’ about social movements and democracy. The first documented the above-mentioned uprising and the injustice thereof, and the second showed the peaceful candlelight protests that led to the impeachment of Park Guen Hye, illustrating how the Korean public had embraced peaceful and democratic solutions to their political struggles.
She is also an editorial board member of the photography magazine, VOSTOK. Furthermore, she has written for The Nation, Responsible Statecraft, The Hankyoreh 21, Esquire Magazine, and more.
She is currently in the Documentary track at UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism.
