Ying Zhao
Ying focused on narrative writing and data journalism at UC Berkeley. Prior to that, she has been working in Hearst Magazines as a feature editor.
Her most recent narrative story is a profile for Chloe Zhao, Best Director of 2020 Academy Awards for her film Nomadland. The story was published by WSJ Magazine China.
Ying also tells data-drive stories. She learned R programming at the Statistic Department of UC Berkeley and applied her programming and analysis skills in California Reporting Project, a statewide coalition of 40 newsrooms committed to working together to obtain and report on police misconduct records.
