Ashlea Brown
Ashlea Brown is a second-year student on the audio track. For the last two years, Ashlea has developed the fundamentals to telling a great story for the ear and has had stories published on the campus radio station KALX, KQED and CapRadio. She is excited to continue her passion for storytelling on issues of racial justice, education, equity and more.
Ashlea is a native of North Carolina which set the foundation of her journalism aspirations during high school. She was selected to attend the UNC-Chapel Hill Chuck Stone Program for Diversity in Education and Media program in the summer of 2014. Shortly after graduating high school, she moved to Atlanta, Georgia and attended the number one ranked Historically Black College/University (HBCU) Spelman College and majored in English. (It’s an all-women’s college that cultivates Black women to “make a choice to change the world,” as the slogan states.) During her time at Spelman, she worked on the college newspaper The BluePrint, and became a member of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ).
Currently she is an audio producer for the “Climate Break” podcast at Berkeley Law and will be interning with the Los Angeles Times audio team in the summer of 2021.
