Candese Charles

Candese Charles is an outgoing and passionate broadcast journalist with an interest in education, crime, arts and entertainment, music and social issues (i.e. diversity, LGBTQ, women’s issues). She enjoys making news packages that are memorable and aspire change. While working in the Investigative Unit at NBC Bay Area she delved into undercover work, intense research, and mountains of CPRAs discovering an amazing love for investigative work in local news. She is attaining her masters in May and is currently working on a thesis series about education and social justice. Her first piece journeys with Oakland activists Oscar Wright and uses documents and past and present current events to discuss the educational, fundamental, and disciplinary gap and disparities in Oakland Unified School District based on race. Her experiences in various news stations throughout the nation have honed her skills as a reporter and prepared her for the news room.
