Pallavi Somusetty
I am an Oakland-based documentarian and journalist interested in covering issues that affect marginalized and lesser-known communities. I am passionate about reporting on health, the environment, women, LGBT, youth/education, and international stories, as well as issues affecting Asian and South Asian communities.
I have worked as a reporter, video producer, documentary filmmaker, teacher, and youth mentor.
I am currently a Master’s candidate at the UC Berkeley School of Journalism focusing on documentary film. My thesis documentary, Escaping Agra, follows the story of Naveen, who was held against his will in India after his family found out about his gender identity. In my spare time I co-lead media trainings for young social justice organizers of color and fill up my phone with photos of my son.
