Ian Sherr
I am an Executive Editor at CNET News. I write about Microsoft, VR and video games and manage coverage of social networking, Internet giants, cybersecurity, the sharing economy, venture capital and wearable tech.
Before that, I wrote about consumer technology from The Wall Street Journal’s San Francisco bureau. I covered everything from video games to smartphones and computers made by Apple, Dell and H-P. Before that, I covered microchip companies and the retail sector for Reuters News in its San Francisco and Chicago bureaus.
A Silicon Valley native, I have long been a technology buff. I’ve followed the ups and downs of the industry since I was a kid, and even picked up some computer coding languages along the way. I also spent some time as an I.T. worker for a Pentagon contractor in Washington, D.C.
I graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz and earned a master’s degree from U.C. Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism.
Specialties: I can translate Nerd to English in record time.
