Jennifer Chaussee is freelance reporter writing about California politics for Reuters. While reporting on the impact of international trade agreements on local farmers in South Korea, she found herself on a farm in a traditional medicine district learning to make homemade tofu. She ended that same year by traveling to Brazil in search of a large corporate floating supermarket that sells banana shaped ice cream to villagers along the remote stretches of the Amazon River.
She also leads California HealthViz – an online community forum for health professionals and reporters who want to incorporate better data visualization into their work.

Outside of journalism, Jennifer has also studied design thinking and public health innovation at Berkeley’s School of Public Health.

Jennifer holds a BA in English literature and is the recipient of the Randy Shilts Memorial Award for Exceptional Reporting, the UC Davis Prized Writing in Essays Award, the Sacramento Press Club Scholarship Award, and the White House Correspondents Association Scholarship Award. She is an elected member of the Student Leadership Committee at the Berkeley SOJ.

Before all of that, Jennifer studied Ayurvedic healing in Asia and worked for a public health campaign to improve nutrition among California’s food stamp recipients.
