Kara Andrade, MJOUR’07, is a Guatemalan-American storyteller, journalist, communications researcher and professor with over 20 years of experience. She has led journalism, media, social entrepreneurship, and public health projects in 25 countries, focusing on innovation adoption and inclusive narratives to address democracy challenges. She holds an M.J. from UC Berkeley and an M.A. and Ph.D. from American University’s School of Communication, specializing in media, technology, and social change. She co-founded HablaCentro Informatics NFP and LLC with her late husband, using citizen journalism to support communities during crises in Guatemala and beyond. Currently, she is pursuing an MFA in nonfiction and poetry at Bennington College. Beyond academics and media, she is a certified death doula, deeply engaged in end-of-life care. She bikes and runs for fun and hikes with her fiercely protective German Shepherd, Oso.
