Annie Gilbertson is an award-winning investigative journalist working in audio and print. At the nonprofit news organization The Markup, she tackled big tech and was part of a team that won a national Murrow Award for their work exposing racial bias in predictive policing software. Her reporting on banned items on Amazon.com led the company to change its policy. Her work has appeared in WIRED, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, NPR, and WNYC’s “On the Media,” among other outlets.

Annie spent nearly a decade in public radio, where she reported on local education and law enforcement. She co-created “Repeat,” Los Angeles public radio’s podcast about officers involved in multiple shootings. One reviewer noted it “reminds you why investigative journalism is so important.” Her local reporting has been followed by a school superintendent’s resignation, the launch of numerous law enforcement and inspector general investigations, and driven changes in local police policy and state law. Her love of audio has led to roles editing, developing, and showrunning podcasts for Crooked Media, Gimlet Media/Spotify, and Sony.

A California native now living in Berkeley with her family, Annie enjoys baking biscuits and hosting dinner parties. Her journalism career began in Alabama and Mississippi, and she loves being mistaken for a Southerner.
