J219 MINI: Foreign Reporting (4 weeks) 1/25- 2/15
This is a four-week long mini-course offered in both fall and spring semesters tailored to students who are applying for foreign travel grants. The course will provide practical advice on proposing, reporting and delivering international stories. We will cover how to parachute into a place –possibly a dangerous one– and come out of it alive and with a good story or two. We’ll delve into everything from dealing with cultural differences and finding sources in a strange land to the business of hiring a trustworthy fixer/translator and obtaining press credentials.
