J200 Reporting the News: Democracy and Inequality – Section 002

Students will explore issues of democracy and inequality as they overlap with the sports landscape, from gender equity to race relations to immigration. We’ll learn how to generate story ideas and navigate access. We’ll drill down on interviewing technique, in-the-field reporting, and story structure, utilizing the inherent narrative structures of athletics. The goal: to pitch and publish as often as possible, in local/national outlets as well as the hyperlocal sites.
