Teacher, Special Programs

Gregory Barber is a science and technology journalist based in San Francisco. A former computer scientist, he often writes about how disparate fields, from healthcare to wildlife conservation, are being shaped by technology and quantitative thinking. He’s currently supported by a McGraw Fellowship in business journalism at CUNY and the Fund for Investigative Journalism. His work has recently appeared in The New York Times Magazine, The Atlantic, and Quanta, among others.

Previously, Greg was a staff writer at Wired, where his reporting on climate technology and biodiversity won awards from the American Geophysical Union and SPJ-NorCal. He got his start in journalism working for his hometown newspaper, the Albany Times Union, in the New York State Capitol. He’s thrilled to be returning to UC Berkeley, where he was an 11th Hour Fellow.
