Katherine Wei has a Bachelor’s degree in counseling psychology at the University of Taipei, her hometown. Katherine served as a bilingual reporter at The China Post — Taiwan’s oldest English newspaper — for two years, and covered the local political scene. Katherine has a passion for social movement reporting, having flown to Bangkok to cover the Red Shirts movement and to Hong Kong for the marches occurring before the Occupy Central movement. Some of her best work was completed during Taiwan’s tumultuous Sunflower Movement last spring, staying for weeks with students that occupied the Legislature in protest of a controversial deal inked with China. Katherine’s articles were often used by the Asia News Network as a representative voice of Taiwan’s current events. She is now a second year student at UC Berkeley, studying narrative writing, coding and data journalism, also producing news stories on Oakland and Richmond.
