Prior to joining Berkeley J school, worked in New York as a general assignment TV news reporter for international broadcasting networks. Covered major breaking news, including US presidential elections, the Newtown massacre and gun control debates; wars in Syria and Ukraine; Ferguson protests; Boston Marathon bombing, among others.
