Part Time Reporter

Richmond Pulse is youth-led, community media platform for Richmond and West Contra Costa County, an area ripe with story-telling potential.

We are a non-profit, grant-funded local news organization.

We are seeking a reporter ready to jump into covering local news and city politics. This position is ideal for new journalists eager to work a beat or veterans who want to tell great stories.

Since its founding in 2011, Richmond Pulse has been a training ground and stepping stone for ambitious journalists who have gone on to KQED, NPR, Youth Radio and Jigsaw Productions, to name a few.

The ideal candidate is a self-motivated and passionate about community journalism and should be comfortable using social media to promote his or her stories. Some reporting experience at a daily or weekly is preferred, but all candidates will be considered.


Photography experience is a plus.


SALARY: $20/hour

  • Excellent writing and reporting skills, including knowledge of AP style.
  • Able to write quick, clean copy as well as narrative features.
  • Enthusiastic and driven to produce quality work.
  • Based in the East Bay, preferably West Contra Costa County.

This is a part-time position with a varying schedule, up to 20 hours a week. Pay is $20 an hour and you can work from our office in Richmond or wherever you write best, but must have transportation to get to news events.
