Managing Editor, Diablo Magazine (Walnut Creek, CA)

Diablo magazine seeks to hire a Managing Editor who will oversee the day-to-day operation of the magazine. This includes creating schedules, managing lineups, and trafficking copy and proofs to team members. The ideal candidate will also contribute story ideas and, on occasion, write for the magazine and/or website. The Managing Editor works closely with the magazine’s Executive Editor to ensure smooth production and workflow.

Diablo is an award-winning monthly magazine that covers the lifestyle, people, culture, trends, and other topics of interest in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area. Its website, diablomag.com, features timely web-exclusive stories and serves as the online home of Diablo magazine.

This is a full-time position located in our Walnut Creek offices. This position offers health care and paid time-off benefits. Salary is commensurate with experience. Diablo Publications is an employee-owned company.

Responsibilities:
Creates and maintains production schedules
Manages and distributes editorial lineups
Traffics copy and proofs to editors, designers, copy editors, and fact-checkers
Oversees a brief weekly status meeting
Oversees interns, copy editors, and fact-checkers
Writes and edits for the magazine

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum 1 year in an editorial oversight role, preferably at a magazine; the ability to work collaboratively; superior organizational and project management skills; first-rate editing, proofing, and grammatical skills; excellent computer skills and knowledge of Adobe InCopy and Excel; familiarity with and curiosity about all things East Bay.
