Tom Standage

Tom Standage, technology correspondent for The Economist, will discuss
the difference between science and business journalism on Thursday, April
10 in the j-school library. He will also talk about writing for The Economist
— including the benefits of not having a byline.

Standage covered science and technology for a number of newspapers and
magazines, including The Guardian, The Daily Telegraph, Wired and Prospect.
He is the author of three books, “The Victorian Internet” (1998),
“The Neptune File” (2000) and “The Turk” (2002). Born
in London, Standage studied engineering and computer science at Oxford
University. He takes a particular interest in the social and cultural
impact of technology.

The Business Journalism Speaker Series, which is sponsored by Bloomberg
L.P., brings some of the industry’s most important editors and reporters
together to talk about the issues facing business journalism today.
