J298 Introduction to Audio (Section 1 – First Years)

This class is designed for incoming first-years on the audio track.

This class teaches you the basics of audio journalism. Together we will produce a series of half-hour to one hour radio shows covering the news, arts and culture in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond. We will cover both the technical and editorial craft of producing an audio news story: how to edit and mix audio; plan and report your story; conduct effective audio interviews; gather immersive sound scenes; write for the ear; field reporting/producing. Traditionally, every student has walked away with a broadcast audio clip for their portfolio.
