J219 MINI Aerial Photography (Sept 4 – Oct 2)

This is a five-week course on aerial photography using UAVs (i.e. drone photography) for the purposes of incorporating footage in documentary films or other videos. The class will go over both FAA rules around flying UAVs, licensing requirements, and teaching cinematic techniques for filming. The instructor will take students out in small groups to give hands-on training in flying drones at a pre-approved location near UC Berkeley. The journalism school uses DJI model drones. The class is scheduled to meet five weeks, with additional time required for group-directed flight training.
