Travel Editor - San Francisco Chronicle

The travel editor (local & regional) is the champion of Northern California and West Coast travel for the San Francisco Chronicle audience. He/she understands how our audiences travels today--what they’re hoping to find, what they want to spend, what inside access they desire--and conjures stories and service pieces that are fresh, highly useful and entertaining, and that maintain the highest standards of journalism.

The editor is responsible for producing this content on our major platforms:

In print: The editor edits and produces ~26 (half the year’s) Travel sections that focus on local and regional destinations. He/she maintains the production schedule, develops the freelance writer pool, and coordinates with art, photo, copy and production staff.

On SFChronicle.com: While the print sections are important, the new editor will be instrumental in transforming our current “print-first” approach to a digital-first one, working with the Chronicle’s senior team in creating the next generation of travel journalism for Northern California. Stories, visuals and packaging for the weekly content should be seen through the online lens.

The editor coordinates with the second travel editor (national & international) across sections; if one editor is out of the office, the other ensures that the sections are executed each week.
