Kevin Hume

At age 16, the journalism bug bit East Bay native Kevin N. Hume. His junior and senior years at James Logan High School were spent on the Courier newspaper as opinion and news editor before he graduated in 2002.
He took a few years to explore the world of music before enrolling at Ohlone College in Fremont in 2005.
He transferred to San Jose State University in 2008 and re-immersed himself in journalism. He spent one year at the student-run Spartan Daily, where his passions for photography and video culminated with him serving as multimedia editor during his last semester.
After graduating with a B.S. in Journalism-Reporting and Editing in 2010, he moved to Lake County and quickly found a job as a reporter/photographer at the Lake County Record-Bee in Lakeport.
In a nearly two-year stint, he assisted in expanding the Record-Bee’s photography while covering breaking news and human-interest pieces, along with issues such as medical marijuana cultivation, dishonest local business practices and the aquatic environment of Clear Lake.
He assisted with page layout, which included stints laying out the front and jump sections of the paper and a few other publications. He also helped establish a YouTube account for the paper, where he uploaded 15 original video pieces.
At U.C. Berkeley, he will focus on his passion for multimedia and photography.
