Jewel of Medina

A new historical fiction novel by first-time author, Sherry Jones, has gotten a lot of attention. The book focuses on the prophet Mohammad’s relationship with his wife, Aisha. When publican was first announced in the UK, the publisher’s office was firebombed. And it was unclear whether the Jewel of Medina would ever be published in the United States. Adithya Samamurthy has the story.

Panhandlers

For some of us, interacting–or ignoring–panhandlers is a daily part of our lives. But we rarely talk abotu how we feel about them, and what we think should be done. Will your money go to drugs and alcohol, or to food and shelter? Ian Sherr went to Union Square to find out.

Folsom Street Fair

very interesting piece. Liked the feed into participatory democracy. Open discussions of sensitive subjects at a local/community level hopefully allow people to be more informed and make political decisions from a less emotional perspective.
