YANGON: REPORTS FROM MYANMAR AND AMERICA

A screening of videos about different aspects of life in today’s Myanmar. The videos — produced as a project of the Center for Digital TV and the World — were created by independent video reporters, a video journalist from The New York Times, and UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism students who traveled to Myanmar together in the summer. Lecturer and journalist Todd Carrel and documentary filmmaker Christopher Beaver taught the Digital TV and the World class. The students who made the trip also were part of a J-School course about Myanmar offered in the spring semester of 2013 and taught by Aung Zaw, the founder of The Irrawaddy, an independent English-language magazine focused on developments in Burma and the most recent winner of Stanford’s prestigious Shorenstein Journalism Award.  He was a special guest lecturer for the class along with journalist and Berkeley political science doctoral candidate Min Zin. The show also includes videos by Digital TV and the World students about Burmese in the Bay Area.
