Region

  • Global Voices: International weblog and news tracking site based out of Harvard’s Berkman Center for Internet and Society, written by an global cabal of “bridge bloggers” assembled in part by CNN’s former Beijing bureau chief Rebecca MacKinnon. Particularly strong on China and India.
  • Asia Times Online: Hong Kong-based online news organization focused on regional politics and economics that will often carry stories not found elsewhere, written in English but “from an Asian perspective” (although a fair number of its staff are Westerners). [NOTE: This is the online reincarnation of the Asia Times newspaper, which bit the dust in the aftermath of the 1997 Asian Financial crisis.]
  • Asia Sentinel: An independent online Asia news and commenatary site run by a cabal of experienced foreign correspondents formerly of the Hong Kong Standard, Far Eastern Economic Review and Time Asia. Features some compelling pieces from non-journalists living in Asia.
  • Asia Source Regional News Sources: Straightforward news aggregator divided by region and topic, plus links to the standard news outlets in most Asian regions.
  • Watching America: Interesting site that tracks opinions of the the US appearing in foreign news media; has a large “Americas, Oceania and Asia” section that occasionally provides translations of non-English articles.
