What Indonesia is doing in terms of forest conservation, and what happens in the Amazon rain forest, is important for me to know in this sense. For that, the network of friendships that I form here will help me in exchanging ideas and stories. I am glad that at a people to people level, I am able to engage in global networks of friends, but I am also reminded that I am one of the few people who are able to do that. Many of my colleagues and the people of Burma also need this kind of engagement with the global community, otherwise our isolation will deepen.
