New from Burma
Our colleague Kyaw Zwa Moe (VS ’06), managing news editor of the
Thailand-based English language news magazine The Irrawaddy, tells
Covering Asia on September 30: ”The junta is waging cyber war
against internet users and bloggers inside Burma, and us outside.”
The crucial online news source irrawaddy.org that provides updated
information and images from inside Burma to journalists around the
world has been under attack since Thursday and is again interrupted
on Sunday. Internet service in Burma has been cut since Friday, and
there are now only 40-50 phone lines into the country, a U.S.-based
Burmese journalist told us.
Covering Asia lists online News Resources that provide continuing
coverage of the unfolding “saffron revolution.” Below is Irrawaddy’s
September 29 report.
