Costs

The Graduate Financial Aid Office has computed the following budget to help you estimate the average cost for a single graduate student during an academic year.

Budget for the following years will be revised to account for changes in the cost of living, and fees and nonresident tuition will be set by the Regents of the University of California.

Some classes require additional costs for transportation, as well many students find once they begin their studies they choose to purchase or upgrade their multimedia equipment. Below are some additional costs that student may accrue during their two years of study.

ESTABLISHING CALIFORNIA RESIDENCY

If your are a non-resident of California, you can establish California residency by the second year of the program, if you follow the appropriate guidelines, thereby saving you approximately $15,000 in out-of state fees your second year. (For US citizens only.) To be classified as a resident, a student must have: 1) relinquished his/her prior residence, and 2) been physically present and established residence in California for more than one (1) year immediately preceding the residence determination date.
