What happens to our food waste? Beth Hoffman investigates for San Francisco public radio station KALW.

Work Experience:

Freelance Radio Journalist, January 2003 - present Responsible for all elements of production including the generation of ideas, interviewing, writing, recording and editing. Aired on NPR, The World (BBC), Weekend America, Living on Earth, Latino USA and KUER (Utah’s NPR affiliate). Created and produced series for KUER on cultural, artistic and evironmental issues with food.
Consultant / Assistant Professor, Special Projects, University of Utah, August 2006 - present Responsible for creating and teaching a class for with Utah Opportunities Scholars utilizing audio documentary to examine educational issues for students of color. Resulted in student essays produced for radio, to air on KUER.
Interviewer / Audio Producer, The New Orleans Project, February 2006 - November 2006 Recorded interviews with New Orleans residents and sounds of the clean up efforts. Created an audio slideshow about the city and an exhibit of 10 enlarged photos and audio. Debuted at the Utah Arts Festival and exhibited in San Francisco.
Freelance Writer, January 2003 - present Write articles for various Salt Lake City magazines including the City Weekly, Catalyst, and Cycling Utah. Wrote monthly articles for Catalyst on food related topics.
Producer, Old World, New Kitchen Grant, University of Utah Documentary Studies Department, September 2004 - October 2005 Awarded grant to produce radio series based on interviews conducted while cooking with immigrant women in their homes. Responsible for all elements of radio production including interviewing and editing. Aired on KUER and APM’s Weekend America.
