- The article covers the recent shooting of 26-year-old parolee Lovelle Mixon by Oakland Police Officer, Sgt. Patrick Gonzales and other such incidents. Winston addresses the results of the Copley Press v. Superior Court of San Diego on civilian rights to access classified records of individual law enforcement officers, such as Gonzales, effectively protecting them from the scrutiny of the public eye. Winston points out that Gonzales and many others often have long, and unseen rap sheet because of these restrictions.
