Description:
Develop, write and edit material for reports, manuals, briefs, proposals, instruction manuals, and other technical publications.
Reviews manufacturers' and trade catalogs, drawings and other data relative to operation, maintenance, testing and service of equipment.
Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, parts lists, and specifications to integrate technology, and operating procedure details.
Determines installation and operating procedures and details. Conducts site survey to observe production, developmental and experimental activities. Interfaces with engineers and technicians to become familiar with installation and operation methods presently utilized.
Observes material processing to determine material and material processing specifications or specifications for manufacturing and operation of equipment.
Organizes material and performs writing assignments according to specifications regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style and terminology. Writes technical descriptions using knowledge of material standards, industrial processes and operating procedures. Reviews published materials and recommends revisions or changes in scope, format, content, and methods of reproduction and binding.
Selects or creates photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams or charts to illustrate materials or sequences. Analyzes developments in specific field to determine need for revisions, corrections and changes in previously published materials an development of new materials. Edits material for structure, completeness, accuracy, organization consistency, and appropriateness of content. Recommends changes in scope, format and content, restructuring and rewriting as required.
Develops and maintains close liaison with customer representatives to establish technical specifications and determine specific or general subject material to be developed. Applies and maintains up-to-date automated data processing and reprographic techniques to resolve publishing problems and satisfy production requirements. Arranges and coordinates graphics, typing, duplication, inspection and distribution of prepared material. Reviews work of other writers and graphics and production personnel to ensure technical accuracy, clarity and quality as required.
Ensures that schedules are met, customer requirements are satisfied, and that quality assurance and security standards are maintained.

Experience:
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree and 6 – 8 years experience with technical writing.
Research, organize, write, edit, classify and produce data for use in a wide variety of complex technical publications.
Ensure technical documentation is accurate, complete, meets editorial and government specifications, and adheres to standards for quality, graphics coverage, format, and style.
Coordinate publications with outside sources and vendors, as needed.
