The Associated Press seeks an aggressive reporter, editor and newsroom leader to serve as one of its breaking news staffers in Dallas, Texas.
Reporting to the Texas News Editor, a breaking news staffer functions as an assignment editor, reporter and news producer overseeing news across the state. The BNS aggressively pursues spot breaking news for the state and national report, sharing news among AP members and reporting stories from the Dallas news desk. The BNS monitors news feeds statewide and works closely with reporters in the field to coordinate coverage across multiple formats, helps communicate coverage plans and offers assistance to AP subscribers, and collaborates with the regional editing desk in Chicago to produce stories of state, national and global significance.

Qualifications:
Ideal candidates will have two or more years of experience in professional newspaper, broadcast or online newsroom, with a demonstrated record of smart news judgment leading to engaging stories. Candidates must have strong reporting, writing and editing skills, and a broad understanding of state, national and international news perspectives. Applicants should have a demonstrated aggressiveness in pursuing breaking news and success in collaborating and communicating with various levels of staff and customers. A strong sense of competition is essential, as is the ability to work as part of a team with other editors and bureaus.
Other qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
Authorization to work in the U.S. will be mandatory.
Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English language is required.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple projects across formats and meet deadlines.
Command of using social media and networking tools in newsgathering is a plus.
Experience working in multiple formats, especially video, is a plus.
