The School of Journalism seeks candidates for the endowed Knight Chair for Environmental Journalism. We seek an internationally respected journalist and/or scholar committed to expanding the Knight Center for Environmental Journalism and advancing our strong international programs of research, teaching and outreach.

The ideal candidate will have a doctorate or other terminal degree and/or at least 10 years of journalism experience in any medium with a significant part of that experience covering the environment and science. A commitment to aggressive external grant activity is essential. A record of high-quality academic research and experience with new media are preferred. Experience in training professional journalists and/or science communicators and fluency in at least one language in addition to English are preferred.

The successful candidate for this tenure-stream position will serve as director and administrator of the Knight Center. The Center aims to improve public understanding of environmental issues through education, outreach and research. It trains students, professional journalists, scientists and citizens how to communicate about complex environmental issues. The Center’s faculty works with world-class MSU scholars in diverse environment-related areas including climate, bio-economy, water, public policy and sustainability. The position also involves undergraduate and graduate teaching of environmental and science journalism and other courses in the School of Journalism curriculum.

The School of Journalism houses a vibrant faculty and integrates the work of internationally known scholars and journalists who offer a digitally based professional curriculum and nationally ranked interdisciplinary graduate programs. New media research and design is an emerging area of excellence in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences. Opportunities abound for collaboration and building new specialties within the College and University.
