Description:
ABOUT The 1947 PARTITION ARCHIVE
The Partition of British India in 1947 was a major 20th century event that affected millions of lives and played a key role in shaping the world in which we live today, both culturally and geopolitically. Nearly two million lost their lives and 15 million people were displaced, making it the largest mass migration. The 1947 Partition Archive is a grassroots non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the fast disappearing memory of Partition by capturing and preserving the people's history through crowdsourced oral history collection.
The 1947 Partition Archive is poised to become one of the largest oral history projects of it's kind. We aim to serve as a model project for other communities scarred by ethnic strife and believe that education is the key to reducing communal tensions, and thus freeing resources to fight hunger, poverty, environmental destruction and other critical issues. Join us in changing the world one story at a time by documenting the world's largest refugee crisis and the people's history of India's Partition.
