Description:
The chosen candidate will:
Commission and edit news stories covering politics, transitional justice and social issues liaise with BIRN's busy bureaux across the region have the skills to process work quickly and efficiently supervise and maintain the news section of Balkan Insight, and other publications, focus pages of our regional teams
Commission and edit analysis, investigations manage and mentor our extensive pool of correspondents actively work on a further development of publications: research, analysis and reporting for internet, print, radio and TV publications develop new ideas and topics and novel approaches to our online reporting for the Balkan Insight output and all other BIRN publications.
Experience:
Extensive experience in print or internet journalism - in particular editing
Essential knowledge of Balkan politics, society and transitional justice issues in the Balkans (war crimes, reconciliation efforts, memorialisation efforts, role of the media in facing the past, missing persons)
Knowledge of international standards of journalism
Only native English speakers are eligible
Interest in investigative journalism
Ability to work independently
Experience in training journalists is an asset
This is a highly demanding post, which requires flair, imagination, bags of enthusiasm and a proven ability to work against the clock without ever losing your cool. The chosen candidate will find themselves in a highly rewarding position at the heart of a young and dynamic organisation which regularly sets the news agenda in the region.
You will preferably be based in the Balkans, but we also welcome applicants currently living in the GMT, CET or GMT+2 timezones.
