CQ Roll Call is seeking an Editorial director & SVP to be responsible for the overall direction and quality of all editorial output at CQ Roll Call. The Editorial director & SVP will lead CQ Roll Call newsroom to ensure the accuracy, objectivity, timeliness, relevance and impact of all CQ Roll Call journalism by communicating and enforcing standards and expectations to staff and articulating a clear vision for the mission, voice and standards for each publication. This position is responsible for leading, recruiting and retaining the highest quality editorial employees, at the most efficient and effective staff levels and ensuring that staff compensation is consistent with job demands, level of experience and performance. The Editorial director & SVP must be able to determine, along with the Managing Director, annual salary and expense budget levels and ongoing forecasts and stay within budget and forecast constraints, striving for efficiency in all operations.

The Editorial director & SVP will assist Product Development in determining how users experience our print and online products, including: layout and design, presentation of text, photography, video, graphics, navigation, style and usage. This position will assist in the definition of requirements for how new products and product enhancements look, feel and behave to users, and play a joint, collaborative role with IT and business stakeholders in determining new products and enhancements, features and functionality, delivery timetables, etc.

This position is responsible for ensuring that Editorial remains free of influence from advertisers, sponsors, and others on whom CQ Roll Call depends for revenue.

The ideal candidate must be able to advise the Managing Director and consult with the senior leadership team on corporate strategic decisions, company policies and other matters of interest to CQ Roll Call at large.

The ideal candidate also must be able to “own” Capitol Hill coverage at all levels; increase recognition of our journalism by maintaining Editorial’s reputation for high quality, independence, and integrity; provide inspirational leadership; be a team player across departments; succeed in recruiting and meeting diversity objectives; and, effectively manage the budget.
