The Ventura County Star Ventura County’s leading newspaper and web site, has an opening on our Editorial team for an experienced Visuals Editor who is a proven newsroom leader and innovator. The Visuals Editor at the Star coordinates and drives all aspects of video and still photography for publication across all platforms. The Visuals Editor supervises, coaches and directs multimedia journalists and works closely with other editors in developing and supporting the daily news report.

The Star is the primary news source for Ventura County, which is located along the Pacific Ocean just north of Los Angeles. It is a diverse county in terms of business, demographics and interests. The Star takes seriously its role in representing and covering all aspects of news and information of interest to all those communities. The visual report must represent that diversity.

Experience:

The editor must have a minimum five years experience as a photojournalism manager, with a strong emphasis in producing quality news, sports and feature visuals for print, web, tablet and smartphone platforms. We are looking for a teacher as well as a leader. The Visuals Editor will direct an experienced visuals staff, and pool of local contributors, and be expected to continue to challenge them while maintaining quality of the visual product. The editor must be comfortable in all aspects of social media and be a contributor in growing the Star’s presence in social media. The editor must be able to coordinate scheduling of a range of assignments and be flexible enough to respond to breaking news, working closely with assigning editors.
