Duration of Position: Permanent
Work Schedule: Full Time
One of Minnesota’s most award-winning weekly newspapers is seeking a full-time news editor to live and work in one of the most acclaimed small cities in America. Ely, Minn., located on the edge of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, has won so many accolades from visitors and media (Frommer’s Budget Travel named it America’s Coolest Small Town in 2010) that we can’t list them all here.
The Timberjay Newspapers is a small, independently owned group of three community newspapers serving Ely and surrounding small towns. In 2009, the Minnesota Newspaper Association judged the Ely Timberjay as Minnesota’s “Most Outstanding Weekly Newspaper,” and the paper and has been runner-up for that title in other years as well. The paper is a three-time winner of the Frank Premack Award for Outstanding Public Affairs Journalism, Minnesota’s most prestigious newspaper award.
The Ely news editor will be responsible for day-to-day reporting on a wide range of subjects, page layout, and oversight of the Timberjay’s Ely office. The editor will work in cooperation with other Timberjay editors and staff writers.
The position comes with a competitive salary, health benefits, retirement plan, and opportunity for advancement for the right candidate.
Previous newspaper experience preferred, but other previous writing and administrative experience will be considered.
