The American Diabetes Association has an opening for a Book Production Intern at its Home Office in Alexandria, Virginia. The Book Production Intern will support the editorial and production staff of the Book Publishing team. The American Diabetes Association publishes 15 to 22 books annually, ranging from clinical guides to cookbooks for people with diabetes. This internship will give you a chance to earn valuable experience in a nonprofit book-publishing environment.

Duration: 3 to 6 months, to be negotiated with candidate.

Hours: 3 to 4 days per week (22.5 to 30 hours)

Pay rate: $10 per hour

The Book Production Intern will be responsible for various duties under the supervision of the editorial and production staff.

Duties include:
* Fact-checking
* Research
* Collaborating on manuscript review
* Light graphic design and production tasks
* Light proofreading and copyediting
* Filing
* Database management
* Indexing
* Data entry
* Other editorial duties as they arise

Experience:

REQUIREMENTS:
* Excellent writing, research, and communication skills
* Must be currently working toward an undergraduate or a graduate degree or recently received a college degree
* Proficiency in MS Office suite (mainly Word and Excel)
* Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite CS5 is a plus but not required
