Description:

The Associated Press seeks a full-time Marketing Assistant in Boston.

Responsibilities:
Boston, the hub for AP’s New England operation, is a center for media and technology innovation and a prime location for new commercial and digital sales prospects. The Marketing Assistant reports to the New England bureau chief and supports a region that includes Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont.

He/she provides critical support for multiple managers in all aspects of sales and marketing to newspaper and broadcast members, digital and commercial customers and colleges. He/she helps identify, research and pursue new business opportunities and acts as a support liaison for our customers. The successful candidate is a detail-oriented self-starter and problem solver, who can juggle several tasks at once and successfully communicate with internal departments and potential customers.

Specific duties include:
Assist managers in all aspects of implementing sales and marketing campaigns.
Help maintain strong relationships with members, customers, publishers, editors and tech contacts.
Responsible for drafting, receiving authorized signatures and tracking all service agreements for new products and renewals.
Draft communications to members and customers about AP services. Assist in preparing regular and electronic mailings via Silverpop and Outlook to introduce clients to other new initiatives and projects.
Serve as a support liaison, resource and general first point of contact between AP’s customer support and clients.
Follow-up on service starts by contacting customers to verify services, their ability to find content and troubleshooting or referring problems quickly and appropriately for resolution.
Manage college accounts and reach out to prospective college clients on a timely basis.
Update the regional website with company news and new product information. Revise member newsletters, websites and blogs as directed.
Create customized PowerPoint presentations and complex spreadsheets with pricing and content information for customers and meetings.
Organize and coordinate local/state/regional meetings/events/banquets for attendees including publishers, editors and newspersons.
Manage and coordinate newspaper and broadcast contests, which recognize the best journalism in the region.
Coordinate and ensure effective internal communication between bureaus and New York headquarters, developing contacts in different departments.
May work on projects for other managers, as needed.
General administrative tasks and other duties, as assigned.

Experience:

Qualifications:
Five years of experience as a marketing assistant, administrative assistant or equivalent position. Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Communication or a similar field is desirable.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
Experience in SAP-CRM, Salesforce and Sharepoint is a plus.
A detail-oriented problem solver with strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to prioritize and work in a deadline environment.
Project management and/or background in news media business beneficial.
Must possess a service-oriented attitude, and be able to communicate and coordinate well with clients and team members.
A self-starter who can multi-task, work independently and within a team, manage workload, take accountability and deliver results to meet competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
The ability to easily learn a variety of computer programs as well as train others.
Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English language is required. Authorization to work in the U.S. will be mandatory.
