Freelance Web Content Writer/Editor

Protect Your Lungs

Description:

Because there is no reliable way to detect lung cancer in its early stages, the disease kills more people than breast, colon and prostate cancers combined. Protect Your Lungs, a burgeoning non-profit based in Washington D.C., is working to change this by funding promising research for the early detection of lung cancer. Our goal is to give patients a chance to find lung cancer, treat it and live.

And you can help! We are looking for a talented freelancer to join us in spreading the word about lung cancer and highlighting the great work PYL is doing.

Job Description:
We are looking for an independent contractor who can edit and oversee the content on our Web site. Ideally, this person will quickly grasp the tone of the organization, write and edit stories for the site and conduct interviews with affiliated scientists, donors and lung cancer patients. In addition, this person will liaise with the Webmaster to ensure that timely updates, improvements and corrections are made to the site.

Experience:

* Strong organizational skills and an eye for details are essential. * Must be adept at meeting deadlines and editing stories for a variety of audiences. * Must be a strong and versatile writer and editor, ideally with medical or science writing experience. * General knowledge of lung cancer is preferred. * Interest in search engine optimization a plus. * Previous Web writing and editing experience is required. * Excellent research and communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences. * Must exhibit tact and diplomacy when working with team members, scientists, donors and lung cancer patients. * BA or BS degree.
