Description:
Because there is no reliable way to detect lung cancer in its early stages, the disease kills more people than breast, colon and prostate cancers combined. Protect Your Lungs, a burgeoning non-profit based in Washington D.C., is working to change this by funding promising research for the early detection of lung cancer. Our goal is to give patients a chance to find lung cancer, treat it and live.
And you can help! We are looking for a talented freelancer to join us in spreading the word about lung cancer and highlighting the great work PYL is doing.
Job Description:
We are looking for an independent contractor who can write the content for our quarterly e-newsletter. In addition, the writer may also be asked to create content for the Web site and other communication avenues. Ideally, this person will quickly grasp the tone of the organization, help identify stories of interest and conduct interviews with affiliated scientists, donors and lung cancer patients.
Experience:
* Must be adept at meeting deadlines and writing concise stories for a variety of audiences. * Must be a strong and versatile writer, ideally with medical or science writing experience. * General knowledge of lung cancer is not required but a plus. * Ability to write for a variety of formats: Web, news, features, Q and A, and concise summaries. * Excellent research and communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences. * Must exhibit tact and diplomacy when working with scientists, donors and lung cancer patients. * BA or BS degree required.
