Beyond Organic: The Story of Polyface Farm
Thursday, February 24, 2005 6:06 p.m.
Joel Salatin is one of the most innovative, successful and influential farmers working in America today. His Polyface Farm, in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, grows grass-fed beef, chickens, rabbits, pigs, turkeys and eggs in a complex rotational system based on intensively-managed pastures and the symbiotic relationship between species. The farm generates all its own fertility and, with the exception of chicken feed and a few mineral supplements, is entirely self-sufficient. Salatin, a third generation alternative farmer, is the author of "Holy Cows and Hog Heaven." His farm has been featured in Smithsonian, Gourmet, and ABC World News Tonight.
