Frontline/World: Children of the Taliban
Screening with Correspondent Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy
Presented by The Graduate School of Journalism and PBS Frontline/World
As the Taliban extends its reach within the Swat Valley and deeper into Pakistan, millions of residents are displaced and forced to adapt to the strict codes of Sharia law. Caught in the crossfire of this war, are the 80 million children of Pakistan. Frontline/World correspondent, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, visits these children as they adjust to life under a veil and struggle to maintain friendships while ideological loyalties threaten to tear them apart. Her reporting is a grim reminder that if the militants continue to expand their war and to recruit children freely, as they do now, then Pakistan may soon belong to them.
Discussion to follow screening with the film's correspondent, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.
