Word on the Street: Photographs by Richard Nagler

Richard Nagler will talk about his two previous critically acclaimed books, My Love Affair with Miami Beach and Oakland Rhapsody, and his thirty-five-year project to pair isolated words found in the environment with random passersby, which culminated in Word on the Street.

"A Mad Day Out, 1968", by Stephen Goldblatt

On Sunday, July 28, 1968, in the midst of recording sessions for the White Album, The Beatles decided to spend a "Mad Day Out" being photographed at seemingly random locations all over London. This exhibition of photographs by Stephen Goldblatt traces that day and the madcap and energy of the Beatles roaming and playing through London.

In 1953, Marc Riboud moved to Paris where he joined the Magnum photo agency and traveled extensively, working with Magnum founders Henri Cartier-Bresson and Robert Capa.  His skill in capturing fleeting moments in life through powerful compositions, already apparent, was to serve him well for decades to come.

On the eighth anniversary of the 9/11 attack, local photographer Richard Gordon will sign and discuss his new book American Surveillance. Gordon's photos graphically explore the USA Patriot Act, which allows law-enforcement agencies unprecedented access to citizens' private communications and records.
