DRIVING BY CAR

If you drive to the seminar, you can park in a garage across the street from North Gate Hall for $7. You need to bring exact change with you - the vending machines take $1 and $5 bills and nickels, dimes and quarters.

Directions to UC Berkeley

On Interstate 80 in the East Bay, take the University Avenue exit in Berkeley.

Go east up University toward the campus for about two miles. Go past the major intersection of Shattuck Avenue. The next block after that will be Oxford Street. Turn left onto Oxford.

Drive north on Oxford for two blocks and turn right onto Hearst Avenue. Go up and over a small hill. As you approach the traffic light at the intersection of Euclid Avenue, you'll see a multi-level parking garage on your left.

The Parking Garage

Because Hearst is a split-level street and the parking garage entrance is on the upper level above you, you'll have to make a series of turns to get to the garage level.

To do that, turn left on Euclid Avenue, go one block and turn right on Ridge Road. Go one block and turn right on LeRoy Avenue. Go one more block and turn right back onto Hearst Avenue.

You're now traveling west on Hearst Avenue. Go past the intersection with Euclid Avenue, and on the right you'll see the entrance to the lower level of the parking garage.

If that level is full, exit the parking garage and turn right onto Hearst Avenue. Go half a block and turn right on Scenic Avenue. On the right you'll see the entrance to the second level and then after that the entrance to the third and fourth levels of the garage.

Parking is hourly up to $7 for all day. There are yellow machines in the garage you can use to buy a one-day parking pass. Put the parking pass sticker on the front windshield of your car. You will need exact change. The machine takes $1 bills, $5 bills and nickels, dimes and quarters.

The garage is open to the public after 5 p.m. Friday, March 28, until 2 a.m., and after 7 a.m. on Saturday, March 29, until 2 a.m.

Walking From the Garage to North Gate

Walk out of the parking garage onto Hearst Avenue, turn left and go east to the intersection of Euclid Avenue. North Gate Hall is across the street on the southeast corner of this intersection.

TAKING BART

You can take BART to the downtown Berkeley station, which is about a 10-minute walk from the conference site.

The Berkeley BART Station

Get on the Richmond BART line, and exit at the main downtown Berkeley station. When you leave the BART station you will be near the intersection of Shattuck Avenue and Center Street.

Walking from BART to North Gate

From that intersection, walk east on Center (toward the Bank of America and the campus) for one block to Oxford Street. Cross Oxford and turn left. Walk north on Oxford (the campus will be on your right) for two blocks to Hearst Avenue. Cross Hearst, turn right and walk east on Hearst (the campus now will be across the street on your right). Walk four blocks up and down the small hill. That will bring you to the intersection of Hearst and Euclid Avenues. North Gate Hall is across the street on the southeast corner of the intersection.
