We host public events with distinguished speakers from the media, politics, business and other fields. You can receive event notifications by mailing list, RSS feed, or iCal.

Covering the World:
The Logistics and Challenges of International Reporting

Saturday, April 30, 2005: A skills-based, hands-on day of panels and workshops, this conference will cover -- across all media -- everything from how to plan an overseas project, who to talk to when on the ground, how to protect yourself and your sources, how to report in war zones and remote places, how to find a story in the ordinary, how to write the story once you're back, and more.

China's Digital Future

April 30 - May 1, 2004. China is experiencing a digital revolution. ICTs are already altering the course of China's ongoing social and economic reforms. But the long-term impact of the Internet on the Chinese government, people, society and culture is not yet clear.

April 3, 2004. Topic is the State of the Art in documentary filmmaking. Co-sponsored with the Film Arts Foundation.

Media at War
March 16 - 18, 2004. Former UN weapons inspector Hans Blix, Christiane Amanpour of CNN, Judith Miller of The New York Times and Ambassador Joseph C. Wilson IV join 50 other journalists and foreign policy experts at the UC Berkeley campus for three days of panels, lectures and discussions on the U.S. invasion and occupation of Iraq.
Covering Infectious Disease
Sept. 29 - October 3, 2003. Health journalists from around the country gathered to discuss issues related to international health coverage.
Multimedia Reporting & Convergence Workshop #2
May 19-23, 2003. Topics covered include charging for content, the daily routine of Internet users, and putting multimedia into practice.
New Media Conference 2003
March 28-29, 2003. This year's conference focused on how young people have become the driving force in the adoption of digital technology and the Internet and how their habits are reshaping the media industry.

New Media Conference 2001
April 6-7, 2001. In the year since our last conference the new media publishing industry has been hit by waves of layoffs, cutbacks, bankruptcies and uncertainty over the future of online publishing. And a broad range of problems concerning privacy, intellectual property and professional standards pose new threats to media companies.
