emPower, an online magazine that focuses on social issues (health, education, environmental justice, politics and socio-economics) facing people of African descent in American and globally, is seeking an editorial intern for the Spring and Summer session.
Writing and reporting for the web as assigned by the editor. Researching social issues relevant to the magazine for in depth, investigative stories. Conceptualizing and pitching story ideas. Interns are expected to write one article per week for publication.
The candidates should possess (or currently pursuing at the sophomore, junior or senior level) a degree in Journalism, Communications or English and have an interest in socially-conscious topics/issues. The candidate must be committed, responsible and highly organized. This position demands attention to detail and the ability to work independently.
Have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Have flawless grammar and spelling skills, be detail and deadline-oriented. Experience working for a college newspaper or previous internship is desired.
This internship is for academic credit.
This is a telecommuting/virtual internship, which will require at least 15 hours per week, including weekly Skype meetings.
